BEWG succeeds in joint application for national urban sewage engineering laboratory 2016-06-08

On June 8, 2016, the NDRC Urban Sewage Advanced Treatment and Resource Utilization Technology Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as National Engineering Laboratory) under the joint application by Beijing University of Technology together with the joint construction units including BEWG passed the public notification period. At present, the laboratory is the only national engineering laboratory in the field of urban sewage treatment.

In February 2016, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) issued a document to organize and implement special innovation capacity-building projects in the field of environmental protection, in order to improve the independent innovation capacity and speed up the development of the environmental protection industry. According to the document, the first national environmental-protection engineering laboratory is intended to be built. This initiative causes great concerns in the environmental protection industry, and the competition is fierce. To this end, BEWG, together with the Beijing University of Technology and other joint construction units form an application consortium. Under the guidance of the leaders of the Group, the R & D center organizes the keen-witted and capable personnel to be fully engaged in the application work. Finally, our consortium ranked first in the replies organized by Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission and the National Development and Reform Commission.

The estimated total investment of the project is RMB 50,006,200, and the planned construction period is about 3 years. The construction will focus on six major technologies, including the energy-saving and standard-upgrading transformation technology of sewage treatment plants, deep nitrogen and phosphorus removal new technology of urban sewage, technological process intelligent control technology of sewage treatment plants, efficient treatment package equipment and operation of rural sewage, renewable water physical and chemical treatment technology, urban water security and evaluation technology.

The success in the application of the national engineering laboratory is another breakthrough achieved by the R & D center of BEWG, following the successful application of Beijing Municipal Recycled Water Quality Security Engineering Technology Center (provincial) in June 2014 and Post-Doctoral Scientific Research Workstation (national) in September 2015.  The laboratory is the enhancement and expansion of the “Five Centers and Six Bases” technology platform construction plan of BEWG, highlighting the positive achievements of BEWG in adhering to the technological R&D inputs and the scientific planning, and steadily promoting the construction of science and technology platform.

With the successful application of the national engineering laboratory as an opportunity, BEWG will further integrate innovative resources, and strengthen the combination of production, learning and research to achieve the breakthrough of key industrial technologies and industrialization, making a positive contribution in the rapid development of environmental protection industry, and the cultivation of strategic emerging industries.
