Experts Gathered at BEWG to Discuss the Future Development of Buried Sewage Treatment Plants 2021-04-19

In recent years, China’s sewage treatment industry has developed rapidly with remarkable results. However, there are still many difficulties in the sewage treatment industry, such as large covering area of sewage plant, serious NIMBY, low effluent standards and low water resource utilization, etc., which have become a bottleneck affecting the sustainable development of the sewage treatment industry. As a result, a series of difficulties aroused the thinking of experts and scholars and the exploration and practice of enterprises.

How to transform the negative assets of the “NIMBY” of the venous industry into positive assets with the “YIMBY” of urban green functions in the process of driving the optimization of urban assets by upgrading of the environmental industry is a challenge that environmental companies must face directly.

On April 16, the seminar on buried sewage treatment plants (hereinafter referred to as the “seminar”) sponsored by BEWG and undertaken by the Western Region was held in Chengdu. More than 60 persons including heads of relevant provincial, municipal and district units in Sichuan, experts from higher education institutions, experts from the technical committee of BEWG, and relevant responsible  persons of BEWG and its ecological partners were invited to jointly discuss and exchange views on future development of the buried sewage treatment plants.

At the beginning of the meeting, Li Ai, vice president of BEWG and general manager of the Western Region, delivered an opening speech. He said that BEWG will firmly grasp the general keynote of “strategy-leading, customer-orientated, deepened reform, and further development”, highlight the key points, be dedicated to overcome difficulties, and be committed to improving urban infrastructure construction. For this reason, it is expected to summarize experience and discuss development paths based on the results of buried sewage treatment plants of BEWG by taking this seminar as an opportunity, so as to enhance the value of the environmental protection enterprises and make more contributions to the development of the eco-environmental protection industry.

Chen Lin, party secretary and director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Shuangliu, Chengdu, pointed out in her speech that as a key demonstration project of environmental protection in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, Shuangliu Gongxing (CEC) Reclaimed Water Plant is provided with multiple integrated functions of ecological protection, science popularization education, etc. From project approval to construction, BEWG has overcome many difficulties during design and construction, which demonstrates its professional ability and responsibility of a leading environmental protection company. He hoped that BEWG would continue to work hard for project expansion and achieving the environmental protection goal of “no sewage discharged into the river” in Shuangliu District .

During the discussion and exchange of views, industry experts expressed their opinions and provided suggestions on the construction management technology and practice of the buried sewage treatment plants.

Professor Wang Kaijun from the School of Environment of Tsinghua University stated that  building an urban ecological green island is to meet the ecological needs of the people for a better life, and reasonable and efficient use of space resources is a difficult problem to be solved in the design and construction of the buried sewage treatment plants.

Professor Shi Hanchang from the School of Environment of Tsinghua University suggested that BEWG should further build the “product” image, and strengthen refined management and research on “carbon neutrality” based on the smart water platform construction.

Wang Hongchen, deputy dean of the School of Environment & Natural Resources of Renmin University of China, pointed out that as for the buried sewage treatment plants, it is important to develop a feasible and high-quality plan according to the local conditions, with full consideration of the actual needs of regional development, so as to give full play to the advantages of buried sewage treatment plants.

Tang Jianguo, chief engineer of Shanghai Urban Construction Design & Research Institute, said that it is necessary to further explore the development value of the land, and  improve the political value of benefits in terms of “carbon neutrality” and carbon emission reduction, among which, it is suggested to focus on sludge disposal.

Dai Xiaohu, dean of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, affirmed the advanced level of BEWG in the construction of buried sewage treatment plants, and proposed that intensive water plants will be the trend of future development.

Wan Nianhong, deputy chief engineer and dean of the Central & Southern China Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute, Co., Ltd., pointed out the importance of front-end and back-end planning for sewage plant construction from the perspective of design, “no design without planning” , and he stated that it is important to strengthen core technology and properly carry out post-project evaluation.

Wang Xueyuan, professional engineer of the Southwest Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute of China, and Liu Min, deputy dean of the College of Architecture & Environment of Sichuan University, put forward a number of valuable suggestions on sludge treatment, technical support, construction management, etc., providing professional guidance for the technological development of BEWG.

In recent years, upholding the concept of “green development”, BEWG has always been committed to creating a better living environment, and striving to build high-quality engineering projects to provide customers with high-quality products and services.

At the seminar, Tie Tuo, product director of the Product Center of BEWG, introduced the products of the buried sewage treatment plants of BEWG to the experts based on the service principle of “customer-orientated, demand priority, adaptation to local conditions, and value creation”. Li Xinwei, deputy chief engineer of the Operation and Management Center of BEWG, shared the Group’s practices in fine management of large-scale projects from the construction of an excellent operation and management system, the construction and smart operation of a standardized demonstration plant, etc.

The “1+X” management model, BIM, etc., as well as the practical application of engineering quality management standards in projects were introduced by the Western Region from the organization, technology, and standard assurance. The project leader of Shuangliu Gongxing (CEC) Reclaimed Water Plant reported on the situations of project design, process, technology control, construction management, intelligent operation management, etc.

In the concluding remarks, Liu Weiyan, vice president of BEWG and general manager of the Operation and Management Center, said that BEWG will continue to optimize and improve its professional and technical levels based on the experts’ suggestions. He also stated that BEWG will continue to uphold the “customer-centered, market-oriented” business philosophy, and build the capabilities of solutions provision and excellent operation to provide customers with all-around high-quality services.

Hang Shijun, director of the technical committee and chief consultant engineer of BEWG, expressed her gratitude to the experts, customer units, and ecological partners who have been caring about and supporting the development of BEWG. She said that the Group will sum up experience to constantly improve the professional level, continue to pursue  refined and standardized management, and make continued efforts to create a better living environment.

After the seminar, the participating leaders and experts visited the Shuangliu Gongxing (CEC) Reclaimed Water Plant of BEWG to get a close understanding of the process flow, facilities, and project operation of the water plant.

“The way stretches endless ahead, I shall search heaven and earth.” Upholding the business philosophy of “customer-centered and market-oriented”, BEWG will continuously improve its technological innovation capabilities and operation & management levels, and enhance regional competitiveness and development to constantly provide customers with high-quality services, and contribute to the upgrading of the environmental industry and the construction of China’s ecological environment.
