BEWG AOA New Technology Selected as a Case of White Paper on Enterprises with New "Dual Circulation" Development Pattern 2021-09-06

From September 2 to 7, 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) was held in Beijing. As one of the series of activities of CIFTIS, the White Paper Release and Seminar on Enterprises with "Dual Circulation" Development Pattern sponsored by Xinhuanet and Institute of Economics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was held at the same time on September 3. At the seminar, the White Paper on Enterprises with New "Dual Circulation" Development Pattern (hereinafter referred to as the White Paper) was officially released. The case of BEWG Sludge Double Return - AOA Deep Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal Technology (hereinafter referred to as "AOA New Technology") innovation leading high-quality development of the environmental industry was successfully selected, allowing BEWG to be the only enterprise in environmental protection industry selected in the white paper.
 

Creating a new pattern of development is a major strategic task put forward in the "14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025)" and the outline of the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035, which confronts China’s overall development. Against this background, Xinhuanet and the Institute of Economics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences set up a research group, went deep into the front line of the industry, and carried out research and exchange, to collect typical cases of representative enterprises in helping to build a new pattern of development. Thus, research results of the White Paper were obtained, aiming at condensing industrial wisdom and providing reference and enlightenment for helping to build a new pattern of development.
 

As the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is put forward, the low carbon of water industry is ready to go ahead. Improving the efficiency of water treatment is an indispensable part of improving the efficiency of domestic large circulation. As a comprehensive, whole industry chain and leading professional water environment integrated service provider, by actively integrating all forces, increasing investment in scientific research, BEWG has successively developed and popularized new technologies that can successfully promote the high-quality development of environmental industry. Among them, AOA new technology has seen dramatic breakthroughs, and has been applied in Shandong, Guangdong and other places on a large scale with good overall effect. Under the background of "30·60" goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, it has wider application prospect and practical popularization value.
 

The academician workstation jointly established by BEWG and Academician Peng Yongzhen of Chinese Academy of Engineering, based on the characteristics of domestic water treatment, successfully developed AOA new technology by working hard and overcoming difficulties in 6 years. Different from the characteristics of foreign sewage treatment, most of the water pipeline in China are mixed-flow systems. AOA new technology is a high-efficiency denitrification technology for water with low carbon-nitrogen ratio in the mixed-flow system, aiming at unstable sewage concentration.
 

AOA new technology has good effluent effect and stable water quality. Activated sludge process is the core technology of sewage treatment, and the conventional process is limited by sludge reflux ratio, so the removal rate of total nitrogen is an industry challenge. The AOA new technology puts the anoxic zone behind, allows the sewage to flow through the anaerobic-aerobic-anoxic (A-O-A) biological reaction tank in turn. The TN removal efficiency is significantly improved, the effluent effect is stable and above the first-class A standard, and the NH3-N and TN are stable and above the Beijing standard A. The AOA new technology can efficiently recycle the carbon source in sludge, save input cost of chemicals, and reduce the aeration rate of biochemical treatment, achieving the multiple treatment effects of nitrogen and phosphorus removal, energy saving and emission reduction. It is a powerful supporting technology for sewage treatment plants to achieve the goal of "carbon neutrality".
 

In addition, application of the AOA new technology will effectively reduce the output of sludge, and control the "pain of sludge" from the source, to further reduce the carbon emission in the whole life cycle of sewage treatment. Moreover, it can improve the water treatment efficiency by 50% on average, to promote the construction of green industrial chain.
 

Relying on the academician workstation, BEWG constantly innovates and explores the AOA new technology, and tries various new processes coupling to improve water treatment efficiency, such as coupling with various advanced technologies including short-cut nitrification, short-cut denitrification and partial anaerobic ammonia oxidation. It will continuously solve problems of various domestic water plants and meet various demands of water treatment in water sources, sensitive water quality areas and demands for urban development against water treatment.
 

Based on the national strategy and the development of sewage treatment technology, under the context of carbon neutrality, the new energy-saving and consumption-reducing technology of high-efficiency nitrogen and phosphorus removal is the demand orientation of the whole industry at present. BEWG actively responds to industry changes, accelerates its own development, and promotes R&D changes and technological development under the guidance of asset-light strategy. The AOA new technology of BEWG has the technical conditions for large-scale engineering popularization. At the same time, in the process of large-scale application, it can further overcome technical problems of software and hardware, form technologies and products with independent intellectual property rights, and gradually build a technical team that can fight hard, to assist governments and other relevant units to solve more pain points and difficulties in the field of water treatment.
