BEWG’s Yuzixi Ecological Park Project Wins the 2022 IFLA International Award 2022-09-02
Recently, the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) officially announced the list of IFLA AAPME winners in 2022. BEWG’s Yuzixi Ecological Park Project won the Honorable Mention of Economic Viability.
The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) was founded in 1948 in Cambridge University, England, which is headquartered in Versailles, France. As an influential international academic organization in the international landscape architecture industry under the guidance of UNESCO, IFLA is committed to safeguarding the natural ecosystem and creating a global sustainable and balanced living environment.
The IFLA AAPME International Design Award in 2022 was jointly held by IFLA Asia-Pacific region and IFLA Africa and the Middle East. It is an international platform to show the creativity and responsibility of landscape designers in the Asia-Pacific region. This award aims to commend excellent multi-disciplinary projects based on the environmental and social fields, demonstrate multiple models for strengthening the resilience of urban, natural and social systems and climate adaptation, so as to constantly explore and solve today’s and tomorrow’s complex problems and challenges to create a better future for mankind. The IFLA AAPME 2022 award theme is “CLIMATE CRISIS DESIGN”, which aims to continuously call for climate action and countermeasures in the design of climate crisis, and illustrates responsible human actions with examples.
|Yuzixi Ecological Park | High-quality, natural leisure city, micro-vacation destination
Yuzixi Ecological Park is a sub-project of BEWG’s PPP Project of Yuzixi River Channel Flood Control Regulation and Supporting Works (hereinafter referred to as “Yuzixi Project”) in the tributary of the Yangtze River in Luzhou City, which is located in the core area of Luzhou High-tech Zone, with a total area of about 1300 mu. Taking the construction of a water ecological civilized city as an opportunity, taking the new urbanization as the main line, based on its landscape texture, and combined with the development planning of Luzhou Hi-tech Zone, BEWG has carried out full-cycle integrated “design--construction--operation” to reactivate the natural charm of the region, reconstruct the water green environment space, and created a high-quality, ecological and green urban living room.
Among them, in the Yuzixi Ecological Park Lake Area, a series of improvement measures such as river lake separation, river regulation, sponge city construction, water ecological restoration, landscape greening, etc. were taken to effectively improve the quality of water environment, recover and maintain the natural connectivity of river and lake systems, build a benign urban water cycle system, and improve the system quality of landscape open space. After Yuzixi Ecological Park was opened in September 2020, it broke through the management mode of traditional urban park operation and maintenance that focuses on single repair and maintenance, and innovated and introduced the urban regional commercial operation mode to make up for the lack of revenue in the operation and maintenance of traditional parks, so as to explore and practice the innovative management mode of public welfare projects to achieve comprehensive operation transformation of both social and economic benefits.
Through comprehensive planning and design in the early stage of the project, as well as ecological operation, maintenance and commercial operation after completion of the project, and combined with the unique cultural heritage of Luzhou, also called “Wine City”, “Mountain City” and “River City”, BEWG has made Yuzixi Project a comfortable platform for industrial elite exchange and innovation, a fashionable urban waterfront life and leisure destination, and a vivid green cultural image of new Luzhou, greatly improving the attraction of Luzhou Hi-tech Zone and the quality of people’s cultural and leisure life.
Yuzixi Ecological Park has become a new scene project for local cultural and tourism consumption, injecting economic vitality into the high-tech zone and driving the development of surrounding cities. As a new name card of Luzhou City--- “the bright pearl on the south bank of the Yangtze River”, Yuzixi Ecological Park has realized the organic symbiosis of “mountains, water, city, culture and people”, and is new urban park model room project created by BEWG.
