Shandong Radio and TV Station | BEWG Xiajin Jiulongkou National Wetland Project: The "Green Lung" of Wetland, Painting a New Picture of Beautiful Dezhou 2025-09-12
On September 10, the "Life Help" program of Shandong Radio and TV Station reported on the Xiajin Jiulongkou National Wetland Park operated by Beijing Enterprises Water Group (BEWG) under the title "The 'Green Lung' of Wetland, Painting a New Picture of Beautiful Dezhou." The program showcased the park's ecological landscape of clear water, green banks, and dancing herons, presenting the natural features and ecological value of this urban "green lung" and depicting a beautiful picture of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
Located at the junction of Shandong and Hebei provinces, Xiajin Jiulongkou National Wetland Park is one of the important water transmission main canals and water sources of the Eastern Route Project of the South-to-North Water Diversion. The park covers a total area of 847.75 hectares, with a wetland area of 518.38 hectares and a wetland rate of 61.15%.
The incoming water of Xiajin Jiulongkou Wetland mainly comes from the reclaimed water discharged by Xiajin County Domestic Sewage Treatment Plant. After being filtered and treated layer by layer through the wetland park, the water quality is deeply purified, realizing the recycling of water resources. The wetland plays a key role in maintaining urban ecological balance and improving environmental quality. It not only effectively conserves water sources but also exerts important functions in regulating climate and purifying air, thus being vividly known as the "kidney of the city."
Xiajin Jiulongkou Wetland boasts rich biological resources, creating an ideal habitat for various animals and plants. A large area of aquatic plants is planted in the wetland, including water lilies, yellow irises, loosestrifes, and cattails. Particularly importantly, this wetland provides critical habitats, breeding grounds, and migratory stopovers for birds, which is of great significance for maintaining biodiversity in the local area and even broader regions.
In addition to its remarkable ecological functions, Xiajin Jiulongkou Wetland is also an ideal place for citizens' leisure and entertainment. Within the scenic area, winding wooden plank roads, swaying reed marshes, graceful lotus flowers, and interesting landscape sketches form an intoxicating picture. Furthermore, the wetland has elaborately built leisure and entertainment facilities such as walking paths, leisure squares, and water-facing platforms, allowing visitors to experience activities like fishing and wetland plant recognition. While enjoying a relaxing visit, they can deeply understand the importance of the wetland ecosystem.
Through multiple functions such as sewage purification, ecological restoration, biodiversity protection, and providing leisure and educational venues, the Xiajin Jiulongkou Wetland Project has achieved efficient recycling of water resources and significant improvement of the ecological environment. It is a vivid practice of Xiajin County's exploration of the development concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," providing useful experience for the sustainable development of similar water-scarce and ecologically fragile areas.
