Two BEWG projects are selected into the top 100 cases of the “14th Five-Year Plan” ecological environment innovation projects 2022-05-25

Recently, the sludge disposal center project of BEWG in Jimo District, Qingdao, and PPP project for water environment comprehensive treatment in Hangzhou Yuhang Tanghe river basin were both successfully selected into the “Collection of Top 100 cases of the 14th Five-Year Plan Ecological Environment Innovation Project”. This collection of top 100 cases is sponsored by China Environment News Limited under the management of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. It aims to promote technological innovation, management innovation and service innovation in the field of ecological and environmental engineering, and facilitate in-depth fight against pollution prevention and control.

Get through the “last mile” of sewage treatment

Proper treatment and disposal of sludge is a necessary terminal link of sewage treatment. How to get through the “last mile” of sewage treatment and ensure and deepen the environmental functions of sewage treatment plants has become a major problem of current environmental protection. In recent years, the state has issued a series of policies to support the development of sludge treatment industry. The “14th Five-Year Plan” also clearly stipulates the goal of harmless disposal of sludge in the next five years.

Over the years, BEWG has formed a systematic guarantee system for the full value chain of sludge after continuously learning from experience and systematically summary, and provided customers with a series of municipal sludge treatment and disposal system solutions including “regional sludge outlet diagnosis”, “optimal disposal path exploration”, “technical route integration and optimization”, “full-life-cycle consultation and operation management services”. Meanwhile, it has reshaped the complete resource reuse circular economy industrial chain through in-depth excavation and establishment of the link between the urban industrial resources and the sludge treatment and disposal industry.

The sludge treatment and disposal center project of BEWG in Jimo District, Qingdao, has a design treatment capacity of 300 tons/day (based on 80% water content). The process of “stacking concentration + plate frame pressure filtration + hot air drying + pyrolysis and carbonization” is adopted for treatment, and the water content of treated sludge is less than 1%. It has five advantages: “advanced technology, more stable operation”, “less end products, wide utilization range”, ‘green, low carbon, energy self-circulation”, “less flue gas, high emission standards”, “no dioxin, more friendly to the environment”. At the same time, the processing capacity of single line equipment can reach 150 tons/day, which is currently the largest sludge pyrolysis and carbonization project in China.

Since the operation of the project, more than 100,000 tons (calculated by 80% water content) of sludge have been treated, saving more than 50,000m3 landfill space, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 20,000 tons. Through carbonization and pyrolysis, all kinds of harmful pathogens are 100% killed, and the refractory organic pollutants are completely degraded, with more stable existing forms of heavy metals, small probability of reuse and release, as well as extensive ways of resource utilization, thereby receiving highly recognition by the government of Jimo District.

Co-ordination of all elements of “plant, network, river, bank and people”

During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the battle for pollution prevention and control shifted from “resolutely fight against” to “fight against in depth”, with higher requirements for pollution prevention and control. Water ecology protection and restoration is an important part of ecological civilization construction and an important measure to respond to the people’s yearning for a better future. It is important to start with what the people are most concerned about and expect, strengthen the overall planning of water resources, water ecology and water environment, and thoroughly fight for clear water.

Focusing on the systematic overall planning and comprehensive treatment of water-related problems, BEWG has systematically connected the different water-related links of “plant-network-river” around the overall performance goal, built an efficient “grey system” for the joint commissioning and quality treatment and discharge of plant-network, and innovatively integrated such “green systems” as pollution source control, optimal allocation of water resources, water ecology restoration, ecological landscape building, sponge city construction, etc., established a “gray-green” comprehensive treatment system for the whole life cycle, and built a water environment intelligent operation and control platform with the support of quantitative analysis and decision-making system, so as to improve the toughness and sustainability of the water environment operation system. Meanwhile, driven by technological innovation, a systematic solution and product series are formed to provide sustainable water resources and water environment management through the “plant-network-river-lake integration” water control concept and intelligent operation means. The PPP project for comprehensive treatment of the water environment in the Yuhang Tanghe river basin in Hangzhou, which is guided by BEWG, includes four sub-projects: comprehensive treatment of the Yuhang Tanghe river channel, comprehensive treatment of the southern water system, phase IV construction of the Yuhang sewage treatment plant and construction of the Phoenix Mountain Park, which is the largest and most comprehensive PPP project for comprehensive treatment of the water environment in Zhejiang Province. Focusing on the deployment and requirements of “five water co-governance” and “beautiful Yuhang”, all elements of “plant, network, river, bank and people” are coordinated, and various measures including urban pipe network quality improvement, ecological shoreline construction, water ecology restoration, neighborhood effect construction, mountain footpath construction, intelligent dispatching of water system, environmental protection education display, human residential space expansion, etc. are integrated in this project.

At the same time, in this project, plant network system efficiency evaluation solutions based on the pollution control rate are formulated by making use of the “plant-network-river” system coupling evaluation products, and a “plant-network-river” model coupling big data analysis is established to assist in the decision-making of engineering governance as well as operation and maintenance scheduling optimization schemes under different objectives, so as to create a comprehensive infrastructure and high-quality urban ecological space for the Future Science and Technology City of Yuhang District.
