Economic Information Daily | Two Major Future Water Development Reports Released 2025-01-06

A few days ago, a new water supply conference was held in Beijing. At the meeting, the new concept, new connotation and new mission of the new water industry were announced, and two development reports, "New water development report for the future - new strategy of sea water desalination" and "New water development report for the future - carbon neutral road map of urban sewage system," were officially released.

At present, climate change has become a pressing challenge for human society, a new generation of technological revolution has swept the world, and the meaning and mission of the water industry is undergoing extensive and profound changes. In early 2003, a major development plan - "New Water for the Future" - was voluntarily initiated and participated by more than a dozen senior experts in the industry.

It is introduced that the new water affairs will integrate high-end think tanks and industry frontier forces, and have laid out nearly ten research projects in the fields of new strategy of sea water desalination, carbon neutralization of urban sewage system, strategy of regional reclaimed water reuse and so on.

Two major reports, "New Water Development Report - New Strategy for Sea water desalination" and "New Water Development Report - Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality of Urban Sewerage Systems," were released at the conference.

Among them, the new strategy of sea water desalination aims at the strategic goals of "Beautiful China" and "Two Centenary Goals." The sea water desalination can release the fetter of the coastal city water resources and the environment, realize the abundance and the freedom of the water resources supply, and release the economic development potential and the good prospects of the ecological restoration in the new period. Accordingly, the report proposes a national water resources strategy that matches the economic and social development goals of the new period, namely, the strategic concept of "100 kilometers near the coastal zone for seawater construction."

The Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality of Urban Sewerage Systems is an expression of the role and responsibility of China's water industry in key areas of the "double carbon" goals in the context of global climate change. The report is based on an analysis of the importance, potential and pathways of the wastewater treatment industry in the "dual carbon," It forms the first industry-level carbon neutrality roadmap proposed by a non-governmental organization in the world, proposes the industry goal of "carbon neutrality by 2040," and lays out the strategy of nine technical routes and eight action proposals, demonstrating the responsibility and contribution of China's water industry in global climate change.
