Malaysian Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar visited BEWG 2019-10-30
On 29 Oct 2019, at BEWG’s invitation, Malaysian Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar and his delegation visited BEWG and had a discussion with the BEWG President Mr. ZHOU Min, accompanied by Mr. LUO Xuegeng, assistant to president of BEWG; general manager of the overseas business division; and Mr. WANG Jianmin, president of BEWG (M) SDN. BHD. The two parties exchanged views on the direction of future cooperation.
During the discussion, Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar introduced the economic development of Malaysia and the demand for water services. He pointed out that the use and protection of water resources are an important part of Malaysia's national development. In recent years, China has vigorously promoted the construction of ecological civilization, and has accumulated rich experience in water environmental management and water recycling, which is the direction for Malaysia to learn. Through this visit, he hopes to deepen the communication with BEWG, explore cooperation opportunities in the fields of sewage treatment, water recycling, technology application, and talent training, and promote the sustainable use of water resources in Malaysia and the improvement of international competitiveness.
Mr. ZHOU Min extended a warm welcome to Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar’s visit, and briefly introduced the business scope, overseas layout and core capabilities of BEWG. Mr. ZHOU pointed out that after more than ten years of development, BEWG business involves water affairs, water environment governance and other fields. It currently has 1,047 water plants with a water capacity of 37.76 million tons per day, which number is increasing. By continuing to strengthen its advantages in the investment, technology, management and personnel training, it has become one of the largest water treatment companies in the world. The cooperation between BEWG and Malaysia on the Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant project has benefited both parties and has achieved rich results. BEWG is willing to continue and expand its services in water supply and sewage treatment, and provide technical services, equity investment, talent training, and internationalization among other aspects to strengthen the discussion for cooperation models, and jointly promote the use of water resources in Malaysia and the process of internationalization.
Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant was put into operation in June 2017. It is an important project undertaken by BEWG to actively implement the “Belt and Road” initiative and implement the “Going Global” requirements of state-owned enterprises. It is Malaysia’s largest sewage treatment plant and its first underground sewage treatment plant (the largest in Asia and the third largest underground sewage treatment plant in the world). Its sewage treatment capacity is 320,000 tons per day, serving 1.43 million people, which accounts for about a quarter of Kuala Lumpur's population. Both the government and gov-consulting companies believe that it ranks first in quality among Malaysian sewage treatment plants.
Malaysia is the starting point of BEWG's "Going Global" strategy and an important pivot its deployment in the Southeast Asian market. In recent years, BEWG has actively implemented the “Belt and Road” cooperation and development concept, relying on strong capital strength, leading technology and rich management experience to deploy on the international water market. At present, its overseas business has covered over 30 cities across Malaysia, Portugal and Singapore among other 7 countries, as well as Taiwan China and Macau, and has forged the "Chinese label" of the global water and environmental protection market.
