BEWG Tops List of China's Top 10 Most Influential Water Enterprises for 15 Consecutive Years 2025-03-29

March 27-28: The "2025 (23rd) Water Industry Strategy Forum," hosted by the E20 Environment Platform, was held in Beijing. Under the theme "Pursuing the Essence of Value, Forging a New Path in a Changing Landscape," the forum facilitated discussions on strategies for the future of the water sector. Yu Liguo, Senior Vice President of BEWG, was invited to attend.

Looking ahead to the "16th Five-Year Plan" period, China's water industry is navigating significant changes. "Forging a new path" presents challenges but also a critical window for transformation. With slowing urbanization growth, a sustained population decline, and water infrastructure reaching maturity, market demand is shifting from new construction to the renovation and expansion of existing assets, equipment upgrades, and operational efficiency improvements. As the environmental industry stands at a pivotal point, BEWG is seeking breakthroughs and maintaining its leadership. At this forum, the group was again ranked first among the "2024 Top 10 Most Influential Water Enterprises," an honor it has held for 15 consecutive years.

Since the environmental industry entered its "third wave" in 2023, productization upgrades in services, equipment, and technology have become essential for industrial development. This involves creating high-quality, innovative, and strongly branded products, powered by intelligence and standardization, to establish a significant quality gap in environmental services and reshape corporate structures under new models and formats.

During the session "The Path for Water Industry Leaders in the '16th Five-Year Plan'," Yu Liguo delivered a keynote speech titled "The Path to Technological Transformation for Capital-Intensive Water and Environmental Enterprises." He elaborated on how BEWG is leveraging technological innovation to transition from a traditional heavy-asset model to a "combination of heavy and light assets," and building an open innovation ecosystem amidst increasing fiscal pressures and intense industry competition.

Yu Liguo outlined the new normal for asset-heavy companies. BEWG is actively exploring new development paths, transforming from an investment-oriented company into a technology-driven one. In March 2024, it established two major tech platforms—Beishui Tech and Beishui Yunfu—to build a "cloud-chain-terminal" system and create a generational advantage in asset operation. He emphasized the importance of building an industrial ecosystem based on heavy-asset scenarios, integrating technology-driven and market-driven businesses, as well as traditional strengths and innovative operations, to accelerate the full-cycle development from "customer需求 (needs) → technology → product → industry chain → industrial ecosystem."

Concurrently, BEWG took the lead in establishing a national integrated ecological and environmental protection industry-education community, co-building modern industry colleges with 13 universities, and developing an innovative development model of "innovation and entrepreneurship competition + scientific achievement transformation + industrial venture capital fund." Through cross-technology, cross-company, and cross-industry collaboration, it aims to enhance overall factor efficiency and promote system-wide resource synergy. Yu Liguo stressed that BEWG will continue to prioritize open innovation, fostering a shift from "involutionary competition" to "incremental win-win" outcomes via collaborative models of "scientists + entrepreneurs" and "institutions + enterprises."

BEWG's technological transformation journey provides a benchmark example of "technology empowering scenarios, ecosystems driving growth" for traditional heavy-asset enterprises, showcasing a new development path for the environmental protection industry. It is expected to drive sustainable development for capital-intensive water and environmental enterprises on the path of technological innovation, helping the industry advance amidst a complex market environment.

The forum also featured the release of the fourth "Dual Hundred Leap" list of benchmark wastewater treatment plants and an awards ceremony for water industry enterprises. BEWG's Yuhang Wastewater Treatment Plant (Phase IV) was selected as a Pioneer Benchmark Plant; Beijing Daoxianghu Reclaimed Water Plant was selected as a Smart/Specialized Benchmark Plant; Dongguan Gaobu Town Wastewater Treatment Plant and Xintang Yonghe Wastewater Treatment Plant (Phase IV) were selected as Intensive Management Benchmark Plants; and Dongguan Dalingshan Lianma Wastewater Treatment Plant (Phase I) was selected as a Socialized Benchmark Plant.

BEWG's specialized subsidiaries also received accolades: Hangzhou Beishui Future Technology Co., Ltd. was named "2024 Leading Enterprise in the Municipal Environmental Field"; Hangzhou Beishui Yunfu Technology Co., Ltd. was named "2024 Leading Enterprise in Water Supply and Drainage Equipment"; and Beishui Pipe Network (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. was named "2024 Leading Enterprise in Municipal Pipe Networks."

Against the backdrop of comprehensively advancing ecological civilization construction, the water industry is in a critical transition from "scale expansion" to "quality improvement," while the new era of AI intelligence is profoundly impacting all sectors. BEWG is actively embracing these changes, driving technological upgrades and product innovation, promoting cross-technology and cross-industry collaboration, enhancing market competitiveness, and leading the water and environmental protection industry toward high-quality development.
