Responsible Beijing Enterprises|Practicing Yangtze River Protection and Writing a New Chapter of Green Development 2026-04-23
As a backbone force serving high-quality urban development, Beijing Enterprises Group has always kept in mind the "major concerns of the nation", resolutely shouldering the responsibility of protecting clear waters and green mountains and building a Beautiful China. Over the past decade, Beijing Enterprises Holdings has coordinated BEWG, Beijing Enterprises Environment, and other enterprises to deeply cultivate the Yangtze River Basin, from ecological restoration to wastewater treatment, from technological innovation to collaborative efforts, safeguarding the ecological environment protection of the Yangtze River Economic Belt with concrete actions and achievements.
Empowering the Yangtze River Basin Ecological Protection Barrier with Technology
Enterprises under Beijing Enterprises Holdings have focused on core pollution issues such as wastewater, sludge, and waste in the Yangtze River Basin, deploying multiple treatment projects and building an ecological governance system, making positive contributions to improving the ecological environment and water functions of the Yangtze River Basin.
In the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, BEWG's Sichuan Mianyang project adopts the latest generation of self-developed sludge drying and carbonization technology and high-solid sludge dewatering technology, reducing treatment energy consumption and chemical usage from the source. Meanwhile, it innovatively utilizes local waste sawdust, biomass, and garden waste as coagulant aids, achieving harmless, reduced, and resource-oriented sludge treatment. The Sichuan Luzhou Yuzixi Ecological Park project uses "biological-ecological" restoration technology to build a stable food chain based on submerged plants, maintaining lake water quality consistently above Class III (lake standard) of surface water standards. The intertwined blue and green wetland environment has attracted large numbers of waterbirds, becoming a masterful work of ecological restoration in the upper Yangtze River.
In the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the Hubei Wuhan Xinzhou "Plant-Network-River-Lake-Shore" integrated governance project takes urban wastewater treatment as the starting point, preliminarily establishing a systematic and intelligent operation management system, sorting out the city's "venous system" and connecting environmental governance nodes, becoming one of the exemplary cases of implementing the "Yangtze River Protection" strategy. The Hunan Changde tailwater wetland project has built a 150,000 cubic meters/day tailwater advanced treatment project, using constructed wetland technology to bring the main indicators of wastewater plant tailwater to near Class III standard. By stocking carnivorous and filter-feeding fish, it effectively inhibits algae growth and enhances water source conservation capacity. The Jiangxi Yingtan Xinjiang New District Sponge City project systematically improves regional water security assurance capabilities through waterlogging management, ecological restoration, and rainwater-sewage pipeline rectification, supporting the continuous optimization of the ecological environment in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
In the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Beijing Enterprises Environment's Jiangsu Zhangjiagang project company has created a waste treatment resource utilization project, building a full-chain technical system of "collection - treatment - energy recovery - pollutant control", capable of treating over 800,000 tons of domestic waste annually, helping Zhangjiagang City enter the "zero landfill" era and cutting off the pathway of waste polluting the Yangtze River from the source. Meanwhile, the project generates over 350 million kWh of electricity annually, saving 120,000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 300,000 tons, achieving harmless, reduced, and resource-oriented waste disposal, effectively safeguarding the ecological environment security of the lower Yangtze River region.
Building an Integrated Environmental Governance Pattern Through Collaborative Development
Beijing Enterprises Holdings regards Yangtze River protection as a systematic project of multi-party collaboration, requiring its subsidiaries to actively strengthen cooperation with government departments and local enterprises, creating a working pattern of "government-enterprise coordination, resource integration, and common development", promoting deep integration of ecological protection and industrial development, effectively supporting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Promoting government-enterprise collaboration to optimize resources. In Hangzhou, Zhejiang, BEWG and Yuhang District government co-created the Yushang Ecological Civilization Education Pavilion, with a fully underground wastewater treatment plant and a 52,000-square-meter Yushang Ecological Park built above ground, achieving both wastewater treatment functions and enriched science education resources, attracting many students for practical activities, realizing win-win ecological protection and community harmony, and being awarded the title of "Yuhang District Ecological Civilization Education Base".
Deepening industry collaboration to consolidate governance synergy. In 2018, BEWG and China Three Gorges Corporation jointly explored the path of systematic water industry innovation, deploying a water environment comprehensive governance PPP project in Yuanjiang, Hunan, helping to build a "Dongting Water City" of human-water harmony. In Nanjing, Jiangsu, BEWG and Yangtze River Environmental Protection Group joined forces to create the Liuhe District Rural Wastewater Treatment Full Coverage PPP project, thoroughly rectifying the "direct discharge, scattered discharge, and disorderly discharge" of rural wastewater, serving 9 sub-districts and towns and over 2,500 natural villages, benefiting nearly 500,000 people.
Gathering local co-construction to stimulate green momentum. In Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, Beijing Enterprises Environment actively participates in the construction of Zhangjiagang Venous Technology Industrial Park, serving as the core project of the park, both safeguarding the Yangtze River's ecological security and promoting local green circular economic development. BEWG's Ganshengyuan and Sutuoyuan Wastewater Treatment PPP projects in Changsha have a total capacity of 700,000 tons per day, significantly enhancing the Xiangjiang River Basin's wastewater treatment capacity, safeguarding the water quality of important Yangtze River tributaries, and providing strong support for Changsha's "One River, Six Tributaries, One Lake" comprehensive basin governance.
Creating High-Quality Livable and People-Benefiting Environments Through Ecological Construction
Over the past decade, Beijing Enterprises Holdings has closely integrated ecological governance with people's livelihood improvement, both protecting the clear waters of the Yangtze River and benefiting the people along its banks, making the Yangtze River Protection strategy more warm and effective.
Strengthening O&M services to safeguard people's safety. The Jiangsu Nanjing Liuhe project team stepped forward during extreme weather events such as flood prevention and typhoon resistance, safeguarding people's lives and property, while conducting ecological and environmental knowledge activities in villages to enhance public environmental awareness. The Hubei Yichang Wujiagang environmental sanitation integration project, based on the "human-machine cooperation, machinery-based and manual-supplemented" operation model, has created the "Wujiagang" characteristic operation model, serving an area of 5.6 million square meters and covering a population of over 350,000.
Optimizing living environments to paint a livable picture. The Zhejiang Hangzhou Yuhangtang River water environment comprehensive governance project has expanded to dimensions including river regulation and mountain park construction, promoting significant improvement in river water quality, gradual perfection of the ecosystem, and a completely renewed surrounding landscape, with green area increasing by 750,000 square meters and landscape leisure space increasing by 73,000 square meters, becoming a livable and recreational living environment for the public. The Yunnan Kunming water area cleaning project has improved the level of mechanized cleaning operations, achieving daily collection and disposal of water surface waste with harmless treatment of salvaged waste. The Sichuan Yibin South Bank Wastewater Treatment Plant has broken stereotypes by building a "garden-style" water plant, allowing environmental facilities to coexist harmoniously with citizens' lives, truly transforming ecological dividends into people's welfare.
Serving the public and demonstrating responsibility. BEWG has actively conducted community public welfare and targeted assistance activities along the Yangtze River and surrounding areas. The Xinhua project company has provided targeted assistance to local villages, encouraging farmers to participate in specialty breeding and planting industries. Beijing Enterprises Environment's Zhangjiagang project has collaborated with the Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association and Zhangjiagang Environmental Protection Volunteers Association to carry out Yangtze River protection volunteer service activities, establishing and enhancing the sense of responsibility for protecting the Yangtze River Basin.
A peaceful Yangtze River flows endlessly, and green development requires persistent effort. Beijing Enterprises Group will always adhere to the concept of green, low-carbon, and sustainable development, focus on its core responsibilities and business, serve national welfare and people's livelihood, and with concrete actions protect the clear waters of the Yangtze River, renew the basin environment through ecological governance, and contribute Beijing Enterprises' strength to empowering the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and maintaining its vigorous vitality.
