The registration for the series of eco-environment innovation contests under the BEWG Cup has recently opened. Two parallel competitions, the 9th China International Eco-Environmental Innovation Competition and the 2nd Shenzhen Eco-Environmental Technology Innovation Competition (i.e. the 6th International Eco-Environmental Venture Capital Competition), target university teachers and students as well as enterprise startup teams respectively. Together they form a competition platform covering the full innovation chain, injecting innovation momentum into the high-quality development of China’s eco-environmental industry.

The 9th BEWG Cup China International Eco-Environmental Innovation Competition officially opened for registration on May 8 this year. With the theme of “AI + Ecology · Innovate for a Green Future”, the competition adheres to the principle of “driving innovation and commercialization through contests”. It is committed to tapping high-quality university innovation projects and promoting the industrial translation and implementation of technological achievements.

Keeping up with cutting-edge industry hotspots, this year’s competition sets two major proposition tracks. BEWG’s proposed topics cover eight fields including drinking water treatment, low-carbon wastewater treatment, resource recovery, seawater desalination and environmental sanitation robots. Propositions raised by industrial enterprises focus on frontier technologies such as embodied intelligence, microplastic remediation and integrated urban services.

Registration closes on September 13, 2026. The national final and project matchmaking session will be held in Dalian in mid-November. Award-winning teams will receive cash prizes and certificates. Finalist projects can also gain multiple resources including technical guidance from industrial experts, access to real engineering sites, and investment and financing matchmaking.

Registration for the 2nd Shenzhen Eco-Environmental Technology Innovation Competition, also known as the 6th BEWG Cup International Eco-Environmental Venture Capital Competition, opened on May 7. The event adopts the theme of “New Technology · Forge Ecosystem · Invest in the Future” and is co-hosted by Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Science, Technology and Innovation, the National Industry-Education Integration Consortium for Eco-Environmental Industry and BEWG Group.

Open to enterprises and startup teams from all sectors of society, the competition brings together experts, scholars and investors in the eco-environment sector. It provides a precise matchmaking platform for entrepreneurs to access industrial, capital and market resources, supporting the rapid growth of high-potential enterprises.

The registration deadline is July 31, 2026, and the on-site final will take place in late September. The prize pool includes a first prize of RMB 50,000, second prize of RMB 20,000 and third prize of RMB 10,000. A special Shenzhen Encouragement Award with a RMB 20,000 bonus is also established. Qualified winning projects can be directly included in Shenzhen Youth Kunpeng Project Pool for financial support. Teams advancing to the final get priority access to BEWG’s 37,000 m² pilot platform. High-quality projects may receive pre-research funding ranging from RMB 50,000 to RMB 500,000.

Notably, this series of competitions fully aligns with the key priorities of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. It deeply integrates strategic emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, new energy, advanced materials and digital governance with eco-environmental protection, guiding innovation resources toward areas in urgent industrial demand. From environmental large language models and low-altitude unmanned equipment to emerging pollutant abatement and microplastic treatment, competition propositions keep pace with technological frontiers, acting as a weathervane for industrial innovation.
