BEWG Second “Evergreen Cup” Competition: Skills Competition for Workmanship 2019-12-17

From 10 to 13 Dec 2019, BEWG Second “Evergreen Cup” Workers Skills Competition was held in Yongzhou City, Hunan Province. The competition was jointly hosted by Group Trade Union, Operations Management Center, Quality Safety Center, and undertaken by Central Region, and 31 players from five regions of the Group took part in this competition.

The launching ceremony of the competition was held at the Xiahexian Sewage Treatment Plant of BEG Yongzhou Sewage Purification Co., Ltd., where present were LIU Xinjun, Deputy Director of Yongzhou Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau; SHEN Hongliang, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of BEG; YU Jie, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of BEGCL, Chairman of Trade Union of BEGCL; JIN Feng, Vice President of BEGCL, Chairman of the Trade Union of BEWG; ZHANG Tiefu, Executive Director, Vice President and Chairman of the Trade Union of BEWG; CHEN Gang, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of BEGCL; LU Qi, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of BEGCL, Chief Director of BEWG; LIU Weiyan, Director of Group Operations; XU Xiuqun, Executive Deputy GM  of Central Region; WANG Li, Deputy GM of Operations Management Center; WANG Jiale, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of the Group, as well as related leaders, players and workers from the five regions, totaling more than 100 persons.

This year is the Group's "Year of Quality" and the first year of the Group's transformation from "high-speed development" to "high-quality development". The Group's high-quality development and improvement of operational capabilities are inseparable from the support of high-quality talents. The purpose of this competition is to build a high-skilled competition exchange platform, vigorously cultivate and promote the spirit of workmanship, encourage employees to master job skills proficiently, improve business capabilities, promote learning with competitions, and improve skills with competitions to provide technical support and HR guarantee for the high-quality development of the enterprise.

The five regions attach great importance to the competition, actively cooperate, and fully utilize the grass-roots efforts to carry out selections at each level. Not only have they selected the best players from each unit, but they have also stimulated the enthusiasm of employees for learning through preparations for the competition, and created a strong atmosphere of competing, learning, rushing, helping and surpassing.

In order to enhance the guiding role of the competition in actual work, the competition has set up two competition subjects, namely, water supply pipeline network leak detection and sewage water quality testing, according to the key work requirements for corporate operation.

Among them, the water supply pipeline network leak detection is a reality competition. The 8 teams will play in 8 sections in sequence for the competition. In order to comprehensively test the players' level, the terrains of the sections have different situations such as residential communities, main roads, and commercial centers. During the competition, each player walked for an average distance of more than 20 kilometers, and a total of 44 effective leaks were detected. According to preliminary statistics, after these leaks are repaired, about 500,000 tons of tap water can be saved each year, and more than RMB800,000 of direct economic losses can be avoided.

The sewage detecting competition requires players to test the concentration of phosphate in standard water samples, focusing on the standardization of operation, skill proficiency, and accuracy of results, so as to test the mastery of the relevant professional knowledge, technology and operation specifications of the sewage test players. The two-day competition not only tested professional knowledge mastery, but also improved the standardization and accuracy of sewage water quality testing, as precise results effectively avoided the operational risks caused by inaccurate data. After fierce competition, in the water supply pipeline network leak detection competition, players LI Ti and WANG Yanhao from East Region Team won the first place, players OUYANG Keqiang and YANG Gang from Central Region won the second place, and players XIE Kai and YANG Qiang from Central Region won the third place.                                                                                                            In the sewage water quality testing competition, players LUO Xue and LAI Yangling from Central Region won the first place, players LI Danping and SUN Jing from North Region won the second place, and players WU Ruirui and QUAN Weijuan from West Region won the third place. After the two competitions through a comprehensive assessment, the Central Region won the first place in overall performance and won the Group Excellence Award; the Central Region won the Outstanding Organization Award.

After the competition, the players of the water supply pipeline network leak detection also exchanged experiences and shared their experiences. Through the four-day competition, the players not only demonstrated their superb skills and personal style, but also knew their own shortcomings and deficiencies, and had a deeper experience and insights about their duties and workmanship. They all expressed that they will promote workmanship after the competition, increase self-requirements, further study and improve technological skills, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Group.
